Moving Tips

There are lots of ways to help make your move easy and smooth.  Read here for some helpful tips for an organized, peaceful and exciting move.

Make a List

Before you pack even one box, create a simple record keeping system so you know exactly what items are packed into which box. Number each box and list items clearly. It's a good idea too to write on each box which room the contents are destined for in your new home which makes it easier for the movers on moving day.

Have Plenty of Supplies

Always get more boxes than you think you may need.  Have boxes set aside to use for last minute items on moving day, such as bedding, clothing and personal day to day items.  Ensure crockery, glass wear and delicate items are securely wrapped in newspaper and bubble wrap before packing.  Delicate items should be packed tightly so as to minimize movement in the boxes.  Boxes should be securely taped up before they are moved.

Use Wardrobe Boxes

Tall wardrobe boxes are perfect for bulky, lightweight items such as bedding and towels as well as clothes that need to remain hanging. Pack hanging items tightly so things won't move around and fall off hangers. Don't make the boxes too heavy to lift.

Use Your Luggage

Rather than just move empty suitcases, holdalls and duffle bags, why not fill them up and use them too for your move?  They are great for transporting items easily. Again, use a simple record keeping system so you know what you've packed and where.

Safeguard Valuable Items

If you have valuable items such as silverware or antiques, check your insurance policy to see how these items are covered during transit and whether you need to take out insurance.

Keep Important Papers With You

Important papers such as birth certificates, passports, utility bills, bank statements etc should all be kept with you on the day rather than packed in boxes for moving.

Moving may not be the most fun you've ever had, but planning ahead will go a long way toward making the process exciting and smooth.
